Clever Coatings resurfaces pool decks across Florida — statewide, plus South Georgia. This page covers what’s involved, the cool-deck options, what it costs, and how to book.
Pool deck resurfacing is the process of repairing and recoating a worn concrete or paver deck so it’s structurally sound, slip-resistant and cool underfoot again. It’s not a cosmetic patch — a proper resurfacing job seals hairline cracks before they spread, rebuilds low or spalled sections, and applies a new textured finish that’s bonded to the slab.
Cracks running through the surface, especially near the coping or expansion joints
Spalling or flaking concrete — the surface crumbles or pops off in chips
Faded, chalky colour that rubs off on your hands or feet
A deck that's genuinely painful to walk across barefoot by mid-morning
Standing water, algae staining, or a surface that's gone slick when wet
The process itself runs in stages: pressure-wash and degrease the slab, grind and patch cracks and low spots, prime, apply the base coat, then the textured cool-deck topcoat and sealant. For decks with structural cracking or a badly deteriorated base, we treat this the same way we approach a garage floor coating job — surface prep decides how long the finish lasts, not the topcoat.
Florida is one of the harshest climates in the country for an exposed concrete deck, for three reasons.
Year-round sun bleaches pigment out of standard concrete and cheaper coatings within a few seasons, leaving a chalky, faded surface.
Concrete expands in the afternoon heat and contracts overnight or after a downpour cools it fast. That constant movement is what opens hairline cracks into real ones.
Afternoon storms, humidity and daily chlorine splash-out drive water into porous or cracked concrete, which accelerates spalling and feeds algae growth.
Lighter, reflective pigments and a textured profile keep surface temperatures noticeably lower than bare or dark-coloured concrete — often the difference between a deck you can cross barefoot at noon and one you can't.
The same texture that breaks up heat also adds grip when the deck is wet — the condition it's in most of the time around a working pool.

A textured coating that reflects heat so the deck stays comfortable underfoot in the Florida sun — and adds grip when it’s wet. It’s the finish most pool owners here actually want.
